Lepanto – Último Cangaceiro

Lepanto – Último Cangaceiro takes us into the housing resistance movements of a Brazil that within just a few years hosted two major events — the World Cup and the Olympics — which changed forever the largest country in Latin America. Local testimonies interweave with the story of Michael J. Wells, a British photojournalist who becomes the narrative voice of Enrico Masi’s film, suspended between investigative journalism and magical realism. Mike has lost his home due to the London Olympic Games and is living through a period of relational conflict, as he grows apart from his partner Maria. The Battle of Lepanto becomes an allegory for the clash between the capitalist model and the resistance of local communities. Mike will undergo his own metamorphosis into the figure of the cangaceiro, the legendary revolutionary outlaw of the mysterious northeast of the country — a South American Robin Hood in search of himself.
